In this video i show you a review of the Canon 100-400mm L series lens with IS. and USM.

its fast focusing and is a massive telephoto lens and when worked along with the canon 550d and have it on the crop movie function where it uses the central 640/480 pixels then you have it at a 7 times zoom. and 7 times 400mm on a cropped sensor makes it about a 1000000000mm lens a bit like a telescope!
you can make the zoom smooth or tight so that you dont have barrel creep when not using it.

not so great for portraits but shooting a snowboarder falling down a mountain across the valley it would be A MA ZUN!

The other neat feature it has is the ability to tighten or loosen the speed of the zoom. To zoom you do it an old school way of pushing and pulling the front part of the lens,  but you can change how smoothly this can happen by twiting a part on the side, you can make it rock solid so it cant be zoomed or loose so it just drop forward to max zoom, obviously you would want it somewhere in the middle depending on your strength, and how tired you arms are after carying this bad boy round with you all day.

Deffo this is a lens to take on a safari! getting shots of wide animals and also getting sweet video with this would be amazing. and it is relativly cheap it is around the £1000 mark which for something that covers this amount of range, is this well built and is this optically good makes it a bit of a bargain!
